Most Frequently Asked Questions About Getting Married In Greece, Italy or Lapland

1. How do we go about booking our wedding?

The most important thing is to get a date and venue booked and confirmed (especially for the most popular venues such as Lapland Northern Lights, Sicily or Amalfi Coast or the Greek Cameo Island, Alexandra Beach and Balcony for Zakynthos, which get booked up very quickly). You can then relax and slowly put together in your own time the package of your choice from our list of extras. We will, of course, be in touch over the coming months if you have any queries about paperwork and extras. At the end of the previous year before your wedding, I will send you further guidelines of how and when to get started on your paperwork as well as a "Final List of Requirements" sheet so that we can put together your package and cost.

2. When will we have to pay for the wedding?

Once the date and venue have been confirmed, We will require a deposit as this will secure the ceremony and venue. This can be sent by bank transfer. These deposits are non-refundable but of course, will be deducted from your final balance. All other monies are payable upon request closer to the time.

3. Is there a legal residency requirement?

We need to get your paperwork to the town hall eight days before the wedding but we are able to do this on your behalf (copies and then the originals once you arrive) so you yourselves don't need to be here until a couple of days beforehand in order for us to meet and make the final arrangements, however very beneficial if you are there for the week before and a week after the ceremony(for Greece) Lapland is very similar. Other destinations please ask.

4. How many days before and after the wedding should we be there?

As per above, there is no legal requirement and we will have put together your package via emails even before you arrive,  However,  it is good to have at least four or five days before the wedding and the same after in order for us to have time to collect your marriage certificate and photographs etc. However, we can do it in just a couple of days before the wedding if necessary (but not advisable), as we will still have time for hair trials etc as these usually take place the day before the wedding but for obvious reasons, it is always better to not leave everything to the last minute.

5. Will our marriage be legally recognised?

Weddings in Greece and Lapland are completely legal as they comply with Greek & Finish law and are legally recognised in the UK etc. You will receive three certified copies of the marriage certificate plus three legalised English translations. These certificates can then be used in order to change your name etc when you go back to your home country and you will receive these before you leave. You do not need to record/register your marriage anywhere in the UK when you get back.

6. Do we have to stay in a specific resort?

No, you can stay in any of the Greek or Italian Islands we cover and of course in one of our stunning cabins under the Aurora Borealis lights, regardless of where your wedding is to take place. Other destinations please ask.

7. Where are the wedding ceremonies conducted?

Wedding ceremonies are conducted in the venue of your choice, usually a beachside venue, restaurant or hotel, or in the Ice Chapel or St Johns Wooden Chapel.  We have to visit the town hall at some stage either before or after the wedding in order to sign for and collect your marriage certificate. We will take you to the town hall for this appointment. This will need to be checked depending on which Greek island you choose. Lapland will be similar. Other destinations please ask for details.

8. Is the wedding ceremony conducted in the language of the country?

Yes, the wedding ceremony is conducted in the language the destination by the registrar, but one of our wedding planners will be there to translate simultaneously as the ceremony is taking place. Sometimes it will be done in your own language.  We have made a very short and simple ceremony and have transformed it into a romantic ceremony with your own vows, readings and music. You can also opt to add in a beautiful sand ceremony to add to that romantic moment as well as making the ceremony that little bit longer.
